Stay calm and act quickly. Follow these steps:
Step 1 — Change your Mama Money PIN immediately:
- Open the Mama Money app
- Go to your profile settings
- Change your PIN to something new; avoid using your date of birth or easy numbers like 1234
Step 2 — Do NOT share your OTP with anyone:
- If someone calls you and asks for the OTP sent to your phone, hang up immediately
- Mama Money will never call you and ask for this code
Step 3 — If your Mama Money Card has been compromised, stop it immediately by doing one of the following:
- Log onto the Mama Money app and lock your card
- Or lock it on the banking WhatsApp 27 60 091 5591
- Call the Mama Money Contact Centre on 021 202 5420
Step 4 — Check your account for anything unusual:
- Open the Mama Money app and look at your recent transactions
- If you see any money going out that you did not send, take note of the amount and date
Step 5 — Report it to Mama Money straight away:
- Email the Mama Money fraud team at stopfraud@mamamoney.co.za
- WhatsApp customer support on +27 64 802 8428
- Or call the contact centre on 021 202 5420
- Tell them what happened, and they will guide you through the next steps
Step 6 — Report it to the authorities:
- Report the scam to the South African Police Service (SAPS) by calling 10111
- You can also report it to the South African Banking Risk Information Centre (SABRIC) at 0860 101 101
